About Us

The Friendly Fire Collective began in the Spring of 2008 following conversations between longtime friends/organizers and reflections on what had been their successes and failures in their several prior endeavors. The question we presented ourselves was of what elements we felt were lacking, or needed to be strengthened, that is necessary for sustainable and effective social movements. These discussions led to many conclusions, one being the overwhelming need for radical popular education, capable of breaking out of current confines of “the fringe” and reaching new audiences, new movements.

The result is Friendly Fire, through which we have begun to develop a network for the production and distribution of media and the creation of spaces within our community to present and examine issues regarding the construction and support of a strong and dynamic Left. Our collective is based in California’s San Francisco Bay Area, and while we tend to focus our efforts and attention on local organizing (as this is what we do on a day-to-day basis), we hope our material will be in conversation with—and play an active role within—a global context.

Also, this project does not function solely from within this collective. If you have something written, recorded, filmed, or whatever format, and think we may be interested in producing and distributing it, please send it this way. If you’d like to help us in distribution, let us know. If putting on an event with us sounds interesting, we’re all ears. If you want to help us in fundraising, that’s great, too! The point is Friendly Fire is interactive. We don’t exist in a bubble and neither do you!
